Paths of thought
There is a region of the mind wherein lie inexpressible impulses,
intuitions and desires. Rational thought continuously tries to translate
them into words but in translating it often betrays itself.
In search of sincere emotions, in a world where ideologies in crisis
have been replaced by equally bloody religious fundamentalism, we
asked the artists to explore these paths of thought that reason
fails to fathom.
The videos submitted tell of a social and cultural crisis which
today assails every corner of the planet and of a daily life where
denial, violence and alienation prevail.
A sense of progressive fragmentation is represented in the paintings,
sculptures and photographs. Figures which melt into dense backgrounds
and chromatic decompositions, masses of color, winding geometrics
and, finally, lines or colored dots that lose themselves in terrifying
rays of light.
And the music, especially written by Vincenzo Nini, collects, leads,
stresses intuitions not otherwise expressible, in search of the
original vibration that has structured the universe.
-Vicenzo Montella
Everybody knows the universality of art is a myth: that of a visual
communication and content felt and shared by everybody. Nevertheless
a universal sign the art possesses and is the anthropological truth
of its own language. There is no man in the world that hasn't in
varying level the gift of the artistic creativity, the skill to
translate and to interpret the metaphors of life. But where is this
ability? Where sit those outbursts of the mind that translate in
the universal art doing? Although the scientists worry themselves
investigating and testing the answer is still mysterious. The art
is a gift, though are many and constantly changing its declinations.
And although along the millennia, at least at first glance, is reconciled
to the figurative reality, perhaps what represents at the best its
original character is the abstraction. Not only as form but as thought,
as spiritual dimension. What is unseen is in our imagination, in
our unconscious, in our soul. And also in our eyes. Here is the
extraordinary gift of art. We could speak infinitely about its indecipherableness,
its indefinableness, but we will continue to feel the charm of seeing
a reflection in our mind, beyond the thought and even inside it.
Sometimes I feel amazed by the imaginative impulse that shot me
watching a curled leaf or the leak of a wall. It is a professional
distortion, I say. But then I see the same "visionary"
tensions in a common man or in a child. And I understand that those
signs contain a mystery that is inside us, first of all.
So has a symbolic meaning of the title of the show that Vincenzo
Montella promoted. The paths of thought through the inaccessible
places of the mind, buying the forms of imagination, interpreting
the wounds of the soul. The fact that the artists come from many
nations, is a further sign of the multiple and braided communicating
in the depth, of which art is testimony, since always, connecting
space and time.
